INTRODUCTION TO WOMEN’S RUGBY

In women’s rugby, according to the latest survey of the Development and Competition area of the Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR), the number of women in the sport has grown by 121% in the last five years.

Currently, some 6,084 girls play rugby in the country, of which 5,142 are of competitive age, from 15 years old onwards (for example, men’s rugby in Argentina counts 130,000 players).

The UAR regulations on children’s categories stipulate that girls and boys can play together in a rugby team, up to and including the M13 (under 13) category.

In the senior divisions, there are no mandatory rules for clubs to promote women’s rugby. It does not have the development of men’s rugby, and women still have to travel long distances to play a match, play matches every 15 days and play sevens (with seven players per side) throughout the year. The men’s team plays every weekend and in teams of 15 players.

The number of players, by category, is as follows

Seniors: 48.6%.
Juniors: 35, 92%.
Juniors: 15, 62%.
