The FuturED Institute was pleased to participate in The Future of the UN and Renewing Multilateralism, a special event organised by the United Nations Association UK as part of its Speaker Series. The session featured distinguished diplomat and international leader Susana Malcorra and brought together academics, policymakers, professionals, and representatives of civil society to discuss the future of international cooperation and global governance.

Juan Dávila y Verdin, Founder and Managing Director of The FuturED Institute, attended the event on behalf of the organisation.

Drawing upon her extensive experience within the United Nations system and international public affairs, Ms Malcorra provided a thoughtful assessment of the challenges and opportunities facing multilateralism in an increasingly complex global environment. Her remarks addressed the impact of geopolitical tensions, technological change, climate challenges, and shifting international priorities on the effectiveness of global institutions.

Throughout the discussion, Ms Malcorra reflected on her distinguished career, which has included serving as Chief of Staff to former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Field Support, senior leadership positions within the World Food Programme, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina. Drawing on these experiences, she highlighted both the achievements and limitations of existing multilateral structures while emphasising the importance of institutional adaptation, international trust, and renewed global engagement.

The conversation also explored potential avenues for reform within the United Nations system and considered how international organisations can remain effective, legitimate, and responsive to the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Participation in events such as this reflects The FuturED Institute’s ongoing commitment to promoting dialogue on international affairs, education, sustainable development, and global cooperation. As governments, educational institutions, businesses, and civil society organisations seek collaborative responses to shared global challenges, discussions on the future of multilateralism remain more relevant than ever.

The FuturED Institute extends its sincere appreciation to the United Nations Association UK for the invitation and for organising such a timely and insightful event.
